Hi everyone. Just to let you know Mrs Gardner and I are really excited about tonite. In case you wondered why, we are avid readers so of course we are going to the 12:01 am showing of New Moon tonite!!!!!!!!! Also i would like to wish all of you a happy Thanksgiving.
The 8th graders have been working really hard on creating paintings that are Abstract . I wanted them to understand what it was like to create a Jackson Pollock or a Stuart Davis and why. So often we look at an Abstract piece of work and think " wow that looks like a bunch of scribbles or just alot of paint slapped on a canvas. There first piece of work consisted of using very famular shape and camouflages them. The shapes were the letters of their first name but it wasn't about writing their name ,actually is was more about not being able to see it. I wanted the kids to understand how an Abstract artist might have started their piece. So from the small ideas they created we then went for the large 18x24 paintings. Well i have to tell you they are beyond my wildest dreams!!! They are on display in the front lobby and iin the corridor near the cafeteria. As they finish them we are hanging them. Please come check them out. Our next piece is about creating a statement. It is about making the viewer stop and think and ponder. It wil all happen with just 2 or 3 little words with visual to support there idea. We'll see how it turns out . keep you posted.
